Dear Subscriber/Loyal Supporter,
On behalf of Drumkeerin GAA club, I wish to genuinely thank you all for your continued support this past year. The last fourteen months has been difficult for us all, for some more than others, I am sure. To those that have been affected on a personal level by the virus we offer you our thoughts and support. Our club, like every other, has struggled a great deal since March 2020.
The young people and adults have had to go without that which was taken for granted for generations and struggled without that feeling of belonging, meeting friends, enjoying the rivalries, and chatting about it all over a beverage particularly on a Saturday evening. I’m sure it has impacted most on our young people. Great credit must go to everyone for sticking with it and knowing that life will return to normal and please God that day is fast approaching. I want to extend particular thanks to the members of the executive in 2020 for adapting so well to lockdowns and guidelines so we enjoyed at least some football during the year. We are now moving into a much more positive phase and are preparing for the future again, and we were delighted that so many of you reached out to ask how to help throughout the difficulties of the past year. The simplest way to help out the club is by entering our 50/50 weekly draw and yearly lotto, which has also been something we have relied on heavily to finance the many projects we undertake every year. Given the huge loss of financial support from Drumkeerin Community festival and our yearly race night, the 50/50 and yearly lotto have taken on an even greater significance and it is no exaggeration to say they are our only means of income at the moment. A subscription of only €2 a week makes a big difference, so please consider entering and spreading the word to friends and family.
Today, we launch our brand-new website (Thank you Peter). It is our very firm intention to use this website to connect with you all, near and far and not only keep you up to date with all the news, but also treat you to some memories and spectacular drone footage. Times are very much changing: you will notice links to our Child Safeguarding statement and Child protection policy, club Code of Conduct, Club Constitution etc and also links to other community bulletins, for example the parish newsletter.
We will also keep you informed of planned developments within our GAA grounds, of which we indeed to have many. We will work tirelessly to ensure the continued existence of this proud club, and stand alone despite the various obstacles we face, which are part of being a rural GAA club. It is our obligation to ensure the generation of tomorrow have the same choices we had, particularly playing for Drumkeerin GAA and not some three or four club amalgamation. Because of your friendship and loyalty, we will not only continue to fight the battle of rural depopulation, but we will in fact win it, as indeed we will win some big games before the end of 2021.
Is Mise Le Meas,
Sean Mac Tighernain.
